Bison have been iconic in conservation stories in that they were just like wolves almost culled to extinction at the turn of the previous century. Today the species is ecologically extinct meaning that although they are still present, populations are too small to have a significant impact on the ecosystem. Conservationists are trying with great efforts to turn the tide in a land that still has great potential to reinstate wild bisons.

The proceeds of this artwork will go to the Greater Yellowstone Coalition, an organisation that is protecting the greater Yellowstone NP reserve and the wildlife that lives within, such as the last true wild american bison population. They are specifically trying to mitigate controversial conservation strategies like the culling of bison by installing a quarantine & translocation program for the surplus of bison to roam outside of Yellowstone's borders. Read more about these efforts on the project's website.
