Larger watercolor work based on my safari experiences in a remote area of Zakouma National Park in Chad. We were very lucky to have a lot of private drives because there were almost no tourists in the park when we visited due to the COVID pandemic.
This lioness was hunting Warthogs with her young cubs. We spotted nervous young Warthogs running in the grass and immediately decided to stop the card and wait. A small group of lions crossed the sandy road meters ahead of us. Before disappearing, the mother lioness looked back and observed us for a few seconds. This epic moment is conveyed in the artwork.
60% of the proceeds of this artwork will go to the K9 unit program of Conservation South Luangwa.
Since 2003, Conservation South Luangwa (CSL) has worked in partnership with Zambia's Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) to conserve the South Luangwa Valley's unique wilderness and wildlife. Their efforts focus on protecting the 1.4 million hectares of largely intact national park and surrounding game management areas, home to over 60 mammal species, 450 bird species, and iconic animals like Crawshay's zebra and Luangwa giraffe.
Through a multi-faceted approach, CSL works with DNPW to combat wildlife trafficking and poaching through anti-poaching patrols, aerial surveillance, and community engagement. Their mission is to ensure the long-term conservation of the South Luangwa Valley's wildlife and ecosystems, while promoting coexistence with local communities.
